Curly Candy - John as Curly Howard

John does a terrific job impersonating Curly Howard in an episode of 'SCTV' from November 21, 1977 . John, Eugene Levy (as Moe) and Joe Flaherty (as Larry) play 'The Three Stooges' under the name 'The Three Dummies'. The butler and maid are played by Dave Thomas and Andrea Martin and the society lady is played by Catherine O'Hara. In this 'SCTV' episode 'The Three Dummies' is part of the kiddie show 'Muley's Round House' hosted by embittered and paranoid switchman Muley, played by Harold Ramis.

Everyone does a good job in this skit but John's imitation of Curly is so spot on that you think you're actually looking at Curly Howard. From the high-pitched voice to the beautifully timed gestures; it's all there!

  1. I agree, Rene, John really did a great Curly. One of the funniest episodes of the original half-hour version of SCTV was a parody of the movie Ben-Hur. It took up almost the whole program and starred John Candy in the title role. But instead of imitating Charlton Heston, John played it as Curly Howard and was totally hysterical. You can watch it in three parts on YouTube here:

  2. Hi Vonbork. Thanks for that. I hadn't watched it before, very funny stuff! Besides John playing his role as Curly Howard, Eugene Levy and Dave Thomas play their roles as Abbott & Costello!

  7. I love sctv, it's one of my favourite shows. It's a pitty John's not around anymore, if he was he could deffinately played Curly in the upcoming 3 stooges movie. Btw, i hear that Jim Carrey has sort of gained weight for that role.

  8. Could well be. But I'm not a Jim Carrey fan at all. I would've rather seen Kevin James as Curly as he throws in some Curly movements occasionally in 'The King of Queens'.

  9. I'm kind of a Jim Carrey fan. I've never seen King Of Queens though, although it is on comedy central a lot.
